Types of Study Abroad Intakes
Due to great competition between students applying to study abroad , every year universities offer more than one intake to give admissions to the number of students to join each semester. Another reason why universities have multiple university intakes is to provide students with a choice of when to opt for admission and begin their study abroad journey.
Let’s know the Study Abroad Intake types
Fall Intake
The fall intake starts in late August or September and ends around late December. Almost every university, including the top universities offer fall intakes.
- universities accept and receive the highest number of applications in this intake because April is the end of the academic year for many high-school or undergraduate students.Hence fall intake is the preferred choice of many students.
- Competition is very high in the fall intake, and acceptance changes are very minimal ,and comparatively lower than other intakes.
Spring Intake
The spring intake commences in January and ends by the beginning of May. There are a few universities that offer the Spring intake, and some universities do not offer spring intake .So you might need to inquire prior with your preferred university.
- Universities receive less application in spring intake ,and competition is less as students don’t prefer to choose for it hence acceptance is higher than fall intake .
- Mostly, students who go for the spring intake are the ones who have an internship or a job to pursue after their graduation, and require more time to gain relevant experience and settle down nicely.
Summer Intake
The summer intake is a special case scenario, offered by a handful of universities to limited students for selected courses, mainly diplomas or other summer courses.
- Universities receive fewer applications in summer intake ,competition is less and chances are more of getting an offer
Which intake do Indian students prefer?
students of India choose for the Fall/September intake since it starts in line with the completion of school or under-graduation in India.
Students opting for programs in research mostly prefer the Fall/September intake since many professors opt to start their research at the start of the year and hence getting an internship or assistantship is easier in this intake than the Spring/January intake.
